Resources for the girls at the Warrenville Youth Center

It is nice to post about something positive and uplifting regarding opportunities for the girls in the Illinois juvenile justice system. A few years ago, the Illinois Juvenile Department of Corrections was retooled and renamed the Department of Juvenile Justice but with the state of the state’s economy, still too little resources are available to accomplish the mission of rehabilitation.

As Executive Director of the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority, not only did the agency provide monetary resources to augment programs as well as research to determine their effectiveness, the agency’s staff organized book drives for the state adult and juvenile corrections facilities as well as for the Cook County Department of Correction’s Women’s Justice Center.

It was uplifting to read in today’s Chicago Tribune that Chicago Symphony Orchestra Music Director Riccardo Muti continues to bring the joy of music to the girls at the Illinois Youth Center in Warrenville: https://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/music/ct-ent-0926-muti-goes-to-jail-20110926,0,4055041.column

In this time of financial shortage, time, thought and generosity can make a difference and, hopefully, inspire the girls to become productive citizens upon their release.
