Legislative push to allow undocumented immigrants a legal way to drive

In Illinois, there is currently no avenue for undocumented immigrants to legally obtain a driver’s license. Many persons are stopped for minor traffic violations and are subsequently arrested for the misdemeanor offense of driving without a license.

Although I rarely cite news articles in this blog, The Chicago Tribune just published an article that announces a legislative push to institute a program to allow a licensing of such persons. The story may be found at https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/chi-illegal-immigrant-drivers-license,0,5581373.story. Such a program is long overdue.
