As I posted last year at http://www.lorilevinlaw.com/2/category/veterans%20courts/1.html, since today we are celebrating Veteran's Day, it is important that we acknowledge the men and women who have bravely fought for our country. A new study by the Pew Research Center has evaluated the impact of such service upon veterans. http://www.pewsocialtrends.org/2011/10/05/war-and-sacrifice-in-the-post-911-era/
It is important to note that there are specialized courts that serve veterans who wind up as defendants in the criminal justice system. These courts aid veterans who may suffer from substance abuse, mental health or co-occurring disorders. I have represented persons in the Veterans Courts who have successfully participated in the programs offered by Veterans Courts. These courts provide additional resources and alternatives for those who have so honorably served their country.
